Guides: Glossary

The glossary

The 70 words OneBump uses. Each one is explained as if you are hearing it for the first time.

Discord basics

Server

A server is your community on Discord: the place with your channels, members and roles. You may see the word “guild” in some places. It means exactly the same thing.

Channel

Channels are the rooms in your server, like #general or #memes. OneBump uses one of them, your bump channel, to show adverts from other servers.

Bot

A bot is an app you add to your server. OneBump is a bot. Its job is to show your server to other servers so new people can find you.

Slash command

Type / in any channel and Discord shows a list of commands. Pick one and press Enter. OneBump’s main ones are /bump, /setup and /help.

Guide: What are OneBump’s commands?

Permission

Permissions are on/off switches in Discord, like “Send Messages” or “View Channel”. OneBump needs four of them and never asks for Administrator.

Guide: How to add a bump bot to your Discord server

Role

A role is a label like “Moderator” or “Member”. Whoever has the role gets its permissions. OneBump gets its own role when you add it.

Manage Server

To change OneBump settings you need the “Manage Server” permission in that server. Owners and administrators have it automatically. Anyone can type /bump. You do not need any permission for that.

Guide: How to add a bump bot to your Discord server

Mention (ping)

A mention is an @ followed by a person’s name or a role’s name. Discord then notifies them. People also call it a “ping”. OneBump mentions the person who bumped when it is time to bump again. Anyone can switch their own off with /reminder.

Guide: How do bump reminders work?

Apps menu

Discord lets bots add actions to messages. On a computer, right-click the message and choose Apps. On a phone, press and hold the message, then tap Apps. On an advert you will find Report this advert, Hide this advert and Why this advert?

Guide: What are OneBump’s commands?

Server ID

Every server has an ID: a number about 18 digits long. To copy yours, first switch on Developer Mode in Discord (Settings → Advanced → Developer Mode). Then right-click your server’s icon and choose Copy Server ID. On a phone, press and hold the server’s icon and look for Copy Server ID.

Guide: How to find your Discord server ID

Age-restricted channel

Discord lets you mark a channel as age-restricted. Members have to confirm they are 18 or older to open it, and members under 18 cannot see what is inside. A server can only receive 18+ adverts if its bump channel is age-restricted. A bump channel for ordinary adverts should not be: members under 18 could not see the adverts in it.

Guide: Can 18+ (NSFW) Discord servers use a bump bot?

AutoMod

AutoMod is a Discord feature that deletes messages containing words or links you have chosen. If its rules also catch OneBump’s adverts, the adverts vanish as soon as they arrive. That breaks the swap, so your server cannot bump until it is fixed. In Discord, open Server Settings → Safety Setup → AutoMod, open the rule, and let the OneBump role, or your bump channel, skip it.

Guide: Fix a problem: find the message you see

Timeout

A moderator can “time out” a member so they cannot send messages for minutes or days. If someone times out OneBump itself, it cannot post in that server, so bumping stops. In Discord, open the member list, press OneBump and choose Remove Timeout.

Bumping

OneBump

OneBump is a free Discord bump bot. When someone in your server types /bump, your server’s advert is posted in as many other servers as OneBump can reach at that moment (never fewer than 35), and other servers’ adverts appear in one channel of yours. A Free server can bump every 2 hours. Premium bumps a server for you every hour, day and night, and adds a banner. Each Premium bump reaches 50% more servers than a free bump made at the same moment. OneBump needs four permissions and never asks for Administrator.

Guide: What is bumping on Discord?

Bump bot

A bump bot shows your server to people in other servers. OneBump is a bump bot: you type /bump, and your advert appears in other servers that use OneBump.

Guide: What is bumping on Discord?

Bump

A bump is one push of your advert. Type /bump in your server and OneBump posts your advert into the bump channels of as many other servers as OneBump can reach at that moment (never fewer than 35). In return, adverts from other servers show up in your bump channel. That swap is the whole idea: everyone shares, everyone grows.

Guide: What is bumping on Discord?

Network

The network is every server with OneBump set up. When you bump, your advert goes to some of them. When they bump, some of their adverts come to you.

Guide: What is bumping on Discord?

The swap

OneBump is free because every server gives something back. Your advert is posted in other servers. In return, their adverts are posted in one channel of yours, your bump channel, where your members can see them. A server that hides or deletes those adverts is taking without giving, and loses reach.

Guide: What is bumping on Discord?

Bumper

Anyone in your server can bump it. You do not need to be an admin. People who bump are called bumpers, and the leaderboard shows who has bumped most. The cooldown belongs to the server, so when one person bumps, everyone waits.

Guide: Discord bump cooldown: how often can you bump?

Linked servers

Some people open several small servers that all advertise the same place, so they can bump many times while everyone else bumps once. When a moderator confirms that a group of servers is run as one, the group shares one cooldown: when one of them bumps, they all wait. Owning two unrelated communities is fine and never links them.

Guide: Fair play: what are the rules of bumping?

Setup

Setup takes about 2 minutes. Pick the channel where other servers’ adverts should show up, and write a short description of your server. OneBump makes your invite link by itself. Type /setup to start.

Guide: How to add a bump bot to your Discord server

Bump channel

Your bump channel is where other servers’ adverts land. It has to be visible to your members. That is your side of the swap. Most servers make a channel called #bumps or #partners.

Guide: How to add a bump bot to your Discord server

Cooldown

After a bump, your server has to wait before it can bump again. Free servers wait 2 hours. Premium servers wait 30 minutes. The cooldown is for the whole server, not per person. If a friend bumps, the timer starts for everyone.

Guide: Discord bump cooldown: how often can you bump?

Reach

Reach is the number of servers your advert is delivered to each time you bump. OneBump can post a fixed number of adverts an hour, and shares them between every bump made in that hour: when fewer servers are bumping, each bump reaches more; at the busiest times, each reaches fewer, but never fewer than 35. A Premium bump reaches 50% more servers than a free bump made at the same moment, and you can bump every 30 minutes instead of every 2 hours and switch on auto bump. After every bump, OneBump tells you the real number it reached.

Guide: Discord bump cooldown: how often can you bump?

Bump reminder

When your cooldown ends, OneBump posts a reminder in the channel where you last bumped. On Free it mentions the person who bumped. Premium servers can pick a role to mention instead, so a whole team gets the nudge. Anyone can switch their own reminders off with /reminder.

Guide: How do bump reminders work?

Leaderboard

The leaderboard ranks the people who bump your server most. Type /leaderboard to see it. It is a nice way to thank your regular bumpers.

Your advert

Description

The description is the text on your advert. Say who your server is for and what people do there. It needs at least 50 characters. Free servers get 500 characters and Premium servers get 1,000.

Guide: How to write a good Discord server description

Invite link

Every advert has a Join button that uses your invite link. OneBump creates a permanent invite automatically, so you never have to paste one in. If someone deletes it, OneBump makes a new one the next time you bump.

Guide: How to add a bump bot to your Discord server

Preview

Type /preview and OneBump shows you your advert exactly as other servers will see it. Only you can see the preview. Nothing is sent.

Guide: How to write a good Discord server description

Accent colour

Every advert has a thin coloured stripe down its left side. Pick a colour that fits your server. If you do not pick one, OneBump uses its own blue.

Guide: How to change your advert’s colour and banner

Premium badge

Adverts from Premium servers show a small 💎 Premium mark next to the member count. It tells people the server supports OneBump. It does not change who the advert is sent to.

Guide: What do you get with OneBump Premium?

Who sees your advert

Category

Pick the one category that best fits your server. Servers in the same category see each other’s adverts first, because their members are the most likely to care. OneBump suggests one from your description, and you can change it.

Guide: Who sees my advert? Categories, tags, matching

Tags

Tags are short keywords, up to 5 of them. A specific tag such as “valorant” matches you far better than a general one such as “community”. Use the name of the game, show, hobby or topic your server is about.

Guide: Who sees my advert? Categories, tags, matching

Smart matching

OneBump compares your category, tags and description with other servers. The most similar servers get your advert first. The rest of your reach is filled with other servers, so you always get your full reach and every server keeps receiving adverts. Matching is always on, for every server.

Guide: Who sees my advert? Categories, tags, matching

Why this advert?

Press More under an advert, or open the Apps menu on it and choose Why this advert? OneBump answers in one sentence: the two servers share a category or tags, or their descriptions are alike. If nothing matched, the advert arrived in turn: every server takes a share of all adverts, so every server gets seen.

Guide: How to hide an advert, or see why you got it

Blocked words

We already block content that breaks our rules. Blocked words let you go further for your own server. Add up to 3 words or phrases (10 with Premium). You will stop receiving adverts whose server name or description contains them.

Guide: How to block words in adverts you receive

Hide advert

Press More under an advert and choose Hide this advert, or find it in the Apps menu. Only people who can manage messages in your server see it. It removes that one advert from your bump channel. Using it now and then is fine. Removing most adverts is not: bumping is a swap.

Premium

Free plan

The Free plan costs nothing and has no time limit. You can bump every 2 hours, each bump reaches as many other servers as OneBump can reach at that moment (never fewer than 35), and you get reminders, matching, stats and 3 blocked words.

Guide: What do you get with OneBump Premium?

Premium

Premium is a paid upgrade for one server. Auto bump sends your advert out every hour, day and night. 24 bumps a day, and nobody has to type /bump. You can also bump by hand every 30 minutes instead of every 2 hours, add a banner, write a longer description, mention a role for reminders, stop receiving adverts and block more words. Each Premium bump reaches 50% more servers than a free bump made at the same moment.

Guide: What do you get with OneBump Premium?

Auto bump

With auto bump on, OneBump bumps your server every hour, day and night. Typing /bump is switched off while auto bump is on, so the two never clash. Turn it off any time to go back to bumping by hand.

Guide: What is auto bump and how do I turn it on?

Stop receiving adverts

Normally you must show other servers’ adverts to bump. Premium servers can switch that off: your advert still goes out, but nothing comes in and you do not need a bump channel.

Guide: How to stop receiving adverts (Premium)

Lifetime

Lifetime is a single payment instead of a subscription. Your server keeps Premium for as long as OneBump exists. There is nothing to renew and nothing to cancel.

Guide: What do you get with OneBump Premium?

Gift

A gift is Premium time as a link. Buy one, or earn one from votes and referrals, then send the link to anyone. They choose which of their servers gets it. An unused link stops working after 31 days.

Guide: How to gift OneBump Premium to a friend

Move to another server

Premium belongs to one server at a time. If you want it somewhere else, move it from your billing page. The time you have left moves with it. You can do this once every 24 hours.

Guide: How to pay for, pause, cancel or refund Premium

Subscription

A monthly or yearly Premium plan is a subscription: your card is charged again at the start of each new month or year, and Premium carries on without you doing anything. You can cancel any time on your Billing page. Cancelling stops the next payment; Premium stays on until the time you have paid for runs out.

Guide: How to pay for, pause, cancel or refund Premium

Pause

If you need a break, you can pause a subscription for 1, 2 or 3 months instead of cancelling. The pause starts when the time you have already paid for runs out. While it is paused you are not charged and the server is on Free. When the pause ends, Premium and your payments start again by themselves. You can end a pause early from your Billing page.

Guide: How to pay for, pause, cancel or refund Premium

Billing

Your Billing page lists every Premium plan and gift you have bought and every payment you have made. From there you can move Premium to another server, change your card, pause or cancel a subscription and undo a cancellation, all without asking anyone.

Guide: How to pay for, pause, cancel or refund Premium

Refund

OneBump does not offer refunds unless required to by law or in extenuating circumstances, for example when Premium is not as described, does not work, or was not delivered. To ask for one, tell us in the support server and explain the problem. We review every request, and a refund that is granted is processed within 7 to 14 business days. Your legal rights are not affected.

Rules and safety

18+ (NSFW)

18+ means adult content. You may also see it called NSFW, “not safe for work”. If your server is 18+ you must switch on “My server is 18+”. Its advert then only goes to servers that switched on “Receive 18+ adverts” and whose bump channel is age-restricted. Everyone else never sees it.

Guide: Can 18+ (NSFW) Discord servers use a bump bot?

18+ lock

OneBump looks at things like your server name, channel names, channel topics and description. Each sign adds to a score, and stronger signs count for more. If the score is high enough, your server is marked 18+ automatically and the mark is locked. Only OneBump can remove the lock. Think we got it wrong? Press “Ask for a review” and a moderator will look.

Guide: Can 18+ (NSFW) Discord servers use a bump bot?

Report

See an advert that is a scam, unmarked 18+ content, hateful or just spam? Tap the Report button under it, or open the Apps menu on the advert and choose Report this advert. Pick a reason and send. It takes ten seconds. The server you report is never told who reported it.

Guide: How to report an advert and follow your case

Case

When you send a report it becomes a case with a number like OB-4F7K2Q. A OneBump moderator reviews it and decides what to do. You can follow your cases and see what happened with /cases, or under “Reports I sent” on the website.

Guide: How to report an advert and follow your case

Fair play

OneBump only works if everyone plays fair. Adverts from others stay visible in your bump channel, a real person bumps (or you use Premium auto bump), and each server advertises itself. We check for hidden channels, deleted adverts, automated bumping and groups of servers funnelling people into one. You get a first warning. Then your reach is halved, then bumping is paused. It fades by itself once the problem is fixed, and you can always ask for a review.

Guide: Fair play: what are the rules of bumping?

Standing

Every server has a standing. Good standing: full reach. First warning: we noticed something, and nothing has changed yet. Limited: each bump reaches half as many servers. Paused: bumping is off for a short time (24 hours the first time, then 3 days, then 7). Under review: bumping is paused for 7 days and a OneBump moderator looks at the server; they can end the pause sooner. What we noticed counts for less as time passes: half as much after 14 days, nothing after 60. Type /info to see your standing.

Guide: Where does my server stand? (/info server)

Ask for a review

If your server was marked 18+, limited, paused or removed and you think that is wrong, a manager of the server can ask for a review. Say what you think we got wrong and what you have changed. A moderator reads it and answers on the case. Premium servers are answered first.

Guide: How to report an advert and follow your case

OneBump moderator

OneBump moderators are real people on our team. They read reports, decide cases and answer reviews. They see what OneBump knows about a server: its advert, its settings and its bump history.

Guide: How to report an advert and follow your case

Human check

If bumps from an account look automated, OneBump shows a quick question with a few buttons before the bump goes out. Tap the right one and you are done. It only appears when something looks off.

Guide: Why does OneBump ask me to tap an animal?

Network ban

A network ban stops a server from bumping and from receiving adverts. It happens after serious or repeated rule-breaking. The server’s managers are told why and can ask for a review.

Guide: Fair play: what are the rules of bumping?

Rewards

Vote credits

Each vote on top.gg gives you one credit. Collect 30 credits and swap them for a 14-day Premium gift link you can use on any server you manage. You can vote every 12 hours.

Guide: How to get Premium for free

top.gg

top.gg is a separate website where people find Discord bots and vote for the ones they like. It is free and you log in with Discord. You can vote for OneBump every 12 hours, and each vote gives you one credit here. Type /vote for the link.

Guide: How to get Premium for free

Referrals

You have a referral link. A server counts when it is new to OneBump, has at least 100 members and adds OneBump within 5 minutes of opening your link. Every 5 servers that count earn you a month of Premium. When someone buys Premium through your link you also earn 20% of what they pay. If you promote OneBump for a reward, you must say so.

Guide: How to get Premium for free

Payout

When someone buys Premium through your referral link, 20% of what they pay is yours. It becomes ready 45 days after their payment, in case that payment is refunded. Once $10 or more is ready, you can ask for it on the Rewards page and we send it to your PayPal.

The website

Dashboard

The dashboard is the part of bump.ltd you see after logging in with Discord. It shows your servers, your stats and every setting, with a preview of your advert as you edit.

Guide: How to use the OneBump website

Activity

The Activity tab on the dashboard shows what happened and who did it: each bump, how many servers it reached, bumps that did not go out and why, and every change to your settings. Use it to check whether a bump worked or to see who changed something.

Guide: How to use the OneBump website

Stats report

A stats report is a tidy page of your bump numbers for any dates in the last 35 days: total bumps, top bumpers, busiest hours. You can print it or save it as a PDF. Free servers can make 1 every 30 days and Premium servers 30. It has nothing to do with reporting an advert.

Guide: What do my bump stats mean?

Status

The status page shows live whether OneBump is working. If /bump does not answer, check there first: it might be a short restart rather than something wrong with your server.

Guide: Fix a problem: find the message you see

Shards & clusters

A bot in thousands of servers is split into pieces called shards, grouped into clusters. Your server always lives on the same shard. If one has a hiccup, only the servers on it are affected and the rest carry on. The status page shows each one live.
