Watch: How To Setup OneBump

How To Setup OneBump· 2 minRecorded with the previous version of OneBump, so some screens look different. The written steps below are up to date.

The short version

Press Add to Discord and choose your server. Then pick the channel where other servers’ adverts will appear, and write a short description of your server. Then send your first bump. It takes about 2 minutes and it is free.

  • Step 1: add OneBump. Step 2: set up. Step 3: bump.
  • OneBump asks for seven permissions: View Channels, Send Messages, Embed Links, Create Invite, Read Message History, Use External Emojis and View Audit Log.
  • It never asks for Administrator.

What do I need?

  • A Discord server.
  • The Manage Server permission in that server. The owner and administrators have it.
  • One channel that all your members can see. Make a new one just for adverts: many arrive every day. Most servers call it #bumps.

Step 1: add OneBump

  1. Press Add to Discord on this website. Discord opens.
  2. Under Add to Server, choose your server. If your server is not in the list, you do not have Manage Server there.
  3. Discord shows what OneBump asks for. Press Continue, then Authorise (in some countries it is spelled “Authorize”).

The same screen also logs you in to this website, so setup can open straight away. We see your Discord name and picture, and which servers you manage.

Step 2: set up

After step 1 you land on this website’s setup. It asks two things.

  1. Where should other servers’ adverts show up? Pick a channel. OneBump suggests one. Press Continue.
  2. What is your server about? Write at least 50 characters. If you do not know what to write, press Write one for me to edit. Pick the closest category too. Press Continue.

OneBump makes the invite link for your Join button by itself. You never paste one in.

Prefer to stay in Discord?

When OneBump joins your server it posts a hello message. An admin can press Start setup on it. Or type /setup. Both open one short form with the same questions.

👋 Hi! I’m OneBump

I post your server’s advert in 75% of the servers on OneBump. In return, their adverts are posted in one channel here. That is a bump.

1. Make a channel just for adverts, like #bumps. Many arrive every day.

2. Press Start setup (2 minutes).

3. Type /bump every 2 hours. Anyone here can.

Only admins (people with Manage Server) can press Start setup.

Where should other servers’ adverts go?

What is your server about?

Who is it for? What do people do? 50 to 500 characters. No invites to other servers.

Empty box. Example: A chill server for Minecraft builders. Weekly build battles, friendly mods, new players welcome.

What kind of server is it?

Similar servers see your advert first.

🚀 First bump done! 172 servers now show your advert

From now on, adverts from other servers appear in #bumps. That is the deal: you show theirs, they show yours.

Bump again in 2 hours (14:00). Anyone in this server can type /bump.

Tired of bumping? With Premium, OneBump bumps for you every hour, day and night, and every bump reaches 100% of servers. From $3.99 a month.

I’ll mention you here when it’s time.

What OneBump posts after your first bump: where other servers’ adverts will appear, and when you can bump again.

From now on, adverts from other servers arrive in the channel you picked. Many arrive every day. That is why most servers give them a channel of their own.

What permissions does OneBump need?

OneBump asks for four Discord permissions and never for Administrator: View Channels, Send Messages, Embed Links, Create Invite, Read Message History, Use External Emojis and View Audit Log.

PermissionWhy OneBump needs it
View ChannelsSo OneBump can see your bump channel.
Send MessagesSo it can post the adverts your server receives.
Embed LinksSo those adverts show as a full card.
Create InviteSo it can make the invite link behind your Join button.
Read Message HistorySo it can check that delivered adverts are still there.
Use External EmojisSo the icons on adverts show. Without it, plain emoji are used.
View Audit LogSo it can see who added it, and send them the welcome and setup steps in a DM.

Your members need two of these in the bump channel too: View Channel and Create Invite. If members cannot see the adverts you receive, your server cannot bump.

On the permission screen of one channel, Discord writes the first one as “View Channel”. It is the same permission.

Discord’s own list of what each permission allows: Permissions, in Discord’s developer documentation.

What can go wrong?

  • The website says OneBump is arriving in your server. Wait a few seconds. The channel list appears by itself.
  • A channel says “Needs a fix”. OneBump cannot post there, or your members cannot see it. Pick it and the page says exactly what to change in Discord. Change it and press Check again. Or pick another channel.
  • Your description is refused. It must have 50 to 500 characters (1,000 with Premium), and no invite shorteners such as dsc.gg.
  • Anything else: find the message you see in Fix a problem.

How do I change something later?

  • In Discord: type /settings in your server. A menu called “OneBump settings” opens. Only you can see it.
  • On the website: log in, press your server, then press the Settings tab.
