How do bump reminders work?

4 min read · Updated

The short version

When your server can be bumped again, OneBump posts “Time to bump!” in the channel where the last bump was typed. It mentions the person who bumped. Anyone else can ask to be mentioned too, and Premium servers can have a role mentioned instead.

  • Reminders are on unless you turn yours off.
  • Type /reminder to turn your own on or off.
  • Did not bump, but want to be told? Press Mention me too on the “Next bump in …” message.

🔔 Time to bump!

This server can be bumped again. Press the button or type /bump. One bump is enough for everyone.

Never miss a bump: with Premium, OneBump bumps for you every hour, and every bump reaches 100% of servers. From $3.99 a month.

Bump nowDon’t mention meAuto bump with PremiumAdd OneBump
A reminder. The name above it is the person who bumped last: OneBump mentions them. Anyone can press Bump now.

A reminder is posted the moment the ends: 2 hours after a Free bump, 30 minutes after a Premium bump. It goes in the channel where /bump was typed. A bump started on the website gets its reminder in your notification channel, if you chose one in Settings. Without one it posts nothing in Discord: the bump channel is kept for adverts.

To mention someone is to write their name with an @ in front, so Discord notifies them. People also call it a ping.

Who is mentioned?

  • The person who bumped, unless they turned their own reminders off.
  • Anyone who asked by pressing Mention me too. One reminder has room for 10 people.
  • A role instead of the person who bumped, on a Premium server that picked one.

Everyone in the channel can read the message either way. One bump is enough for the whole server.

Can I be mentioned if someone else bumped?

Yes. Type /bump while the server is waiting. OneBump answers with the time left. If a reminder is on its way, that answer has a Mention me too button. Press it. It is for that one reminder only. Changed your mind? Press Don’t mention me on the answer.

🔔 I’ll mention you too

When this server can be bumped again, I’ll mention you in #bumps.

This is for the next reminder only.

Don’t mention me

Only you can see this

What you see after pressing Mention me too. Only you see it.

Why would I want it?

Every missed bump is 75% of the servers on OneBump that did not see your advert. A reminder means nobody has to watch the clock.

How do I turn my own reminders on or off?

This is your own setting. It follows you to every server. There are four places to change it.

  • Type /reminder. OneBump tells you if your reminders are on or off. Press the button under the answer to change it.
  • Press Don’t mention me under a reminder. If yours are off, a Remind me button appears under your next bump.
  • If you can change OneBump’s settings: type /settings, press Reminders, then Stop mentioning me.
  • On the website: open Account and use the switch Mention me when I can bump again.

On a computer

  1. Click the message box of any channel in your server.
  2. Type /reminder. Discord shows a small list above the box. Click the one with the OneBump picture.
  3. Press Enter.

On a phone

  1. Tap the message box of any channel in your server.
  2. Type /reminder. Discord shows a small list above the keyboard. Tap the one with the OneBump picture.
  3. Tap the send arrow.

Turning yours off only stops your own mention. The “Time to bump!” message is still posted, without your name on it.

How do I switch the message off for the whole server?

The “Time to bump!” message is a setting of the server. It is on unless an admin turns it off. You need the Manage Server permission for this.

  • In Discord: type /settings in your server. A menu called “OneBump settings” opens. Only you can see it. Press Reminders, then Stop posting “Time to bump!”. To bring it back, press Post “Time to bump!” again on the same screen.

With it off, OneBump posts nothing in that server when it can be bumped again, and mentions nobody. Members can still type /bump when the wait is over. This switch is in Discord only.

How do I have a whole role mentioned? (Premium)

A Premium server can have a mentioned instead of the person who bumped. You need the permission in that server. Owners and administrators have it.

  • In Discord: type /settings in your server. A menu called “OneBump settings” opens. Only you can see it. Press Reminders and pick a role from the menu.
  • On the website: log in, press your server, then press the Settings tab. Press the Reminders step. Choose a role under Mention a role instead and press Save changes.

When is no reminder posted?

  • Auto bump is on. OneBump is doing the bumping, so there is nothing to remind you of.
  • An admin switched “Time to bump!” off for the server.
  • Someone already bumped again.
  • The channel was deleted, or OneBump cannot post in it any more.
  • OneBump is timed out in your server.

What can go wrong?

  • “That role won’t be mentioned yet”. The role cannot be mentioned. Follow the steps above.
  • “Mentioning a role needs Premium”. A Free server has the person who bumped mentioned.
  • “That reminder is full”. It already holds 10 people who asked to be mentioned. The message is still posted for everyone.
  • “Reminders are off in this server”. An admin switched the message off for this server.
  • I am not mentioned. Type /reminder and check yours are on. Check the reminder was posted in a channel you can see.

Quick answers

How do I turn off OneBump reminders?

Type /reminder and pick Off. Or press the button under a reminder that stops your mentions. Either one stops your own mentions in every server.

Where does the reminder appear?

In the channel where /bump was typed. A bump started on the website gets its reminder in the notification channel you chose in Settings, or none if you did not choose one. Never in the bump channel.

Can OneBump mention a role?

Yes, on Premium servers. Pick the role in the reminder settings. The role must allow anyone to mention it.

Can a server turn bump reminders off?

Yes. An admin types /settings, opens the reminder settings, and stops the “Time to bump!” message for that server.

Your next step

Check your own switch now. It takes one command.
